Frequently Asked Questions: Newport Beach & Orange County DUI Charges
Below are common questions asked by individuals who have been arrested for DUI. If you have additional questions that are not addressed here, please feel free to contact our office and speak directly with one of our Orange County DUI lawyers.
Why do I need to work with a lawyer?
While you are not legally required to hire a lawyer or work with a public defender, if you have been charged with DUI (driving under the influence) a lot is at stake. In California, a first Orange County DUI conviction could result in a mandatory jail sentence. Without a competent Newport Beach DUI defense attorney at your side, you may receive maximum DUI penalties. You will certainly have almost no chance of avoiding a conviction and may accept a plea bargain which may actually not be the best choice for you.
How much will it cost to work with a DUI attorney at your firm?
Pricing will vary depending upon your particular case and charges, but we may be able to get started with a down payment of only $200. At Coffey & Coffey, we work hard to ensure that our services are cost effective and have payment plans available to help our clients even when the budget is an issue. We recommend that you give us a call to find out how an Orange County DUI lawyer at our firm can help you.
What types of Orange County DUI charges do your lawyers handle?
Not only do our attorneys handle typical driving under the influence charges, but we also take on cases such as under 21 DUI and commercial vehicle DUI charges. We also help clients who have prior DUI convictions and are thus facing multiple offenses. Our Orange County DUI defense attorneys and lawyers handle cases throughout all of Orange County, including the cities of Fullerton, Newport Beach, Westminster, Santa Ana and Laguna Niguel.
What are some of the penalties I might face?
There are a number of penalties associated with an Orange County drunk driving conviction – both criminal penalties and DMV penalties. This includes:
-
Driver’s License Suspension
-
Fines and Court Fees
-
County Jail / State Prison Sentence
-
Probation
-
DUI School
-
Drug/Alcohol Rehabilitation
-
Community Service
-
Ignition Interlock Device Installation
-
Will I lose my driver’s license?
When you are arrested for DUI in Orange County, the officer will confiscate your California driver’s license and give you a Notice of Suspension which will also act as a 30-day temporary license. From the date of your arrest, you will then have 10 days to schedule a DMV hearing. This administrative hearing is held regarding the suspension of your driver’s license. The outcome of this hearing, as well as the outcome of your criminal case, will affect your current and future driving privileges.
