Limited Driving Privileges in Orange County, California

Limited driving privileges may be an option you and your attorney can seek if you have had your driver’s license suspended in conjunction with an Orange County DUI (driving under the influence) charge. Also referred to as a restricted license, limited driving privileges enable a person to drive to and from work, school and DUI classes.

Consulting an Orange County DUI lawyer will enable you to discover if you may qualify for a restricted license, as well as how you can obtain one. To qualify, there are general requirements you must meet, including enrollment in DUI school, proof of insurance and more. A certain amount of time must have passed since your license suspension, as well.

At Coffey & Coffey, we offer a free case evaluation wherein we can evaluate your situation and determine how an attorney at our firm may be able to help you. With many years of experience in this field, and reasonable payment plans, our firm is an excellent choice if you are interested in applying for limited driving privileges.

Restricted License Qualifications in Orange County

In order to apply for a restricted license, or limited driving privileges, a certain amount of time must have passed since the initial driver’s license suspension. For a first DUI, this time period is usually 30 days. For a second DUI, the individual must wait at least 1 year to apply for a restricted license. (Note: A commercial driver may not apply for a restricted license.) Additionally, the following must be given as proof to the DMV:

  • Evidence of enrollment in DUI school
  • Evidence of insurance (also referred to as an “SR22 Form”)
  • Payment of a re-issuance fee

Contact an Orange County DUI defense attorney at Coffey & Coffey to find out if you may qualify for a restricted license. This process may be difficult, particularly if this is your second or subsequent DUI arrest. However, we will work with you regarding your unique situation in order to do whatever we can to help you secure limited driving privileges.
